KRAVINGS: The Game 2011

So many of us have been not so patiently anticipating the return of one of our favorite sitcoms, The Game.

Tonight on BET we get what we’ve been waiting for. Will we be satisfied? Overwhelmed? Underwhelmed? Let us know your thoughts! We’re a bit partial because we LOVE the show and two of its stars (Pooch Hall and Hosea Chanchez) have graced the cover of KRAVE Magazine, but we will try to provide our objective view of the show.

Enjoy! We’ll be back after the show.

ASOS: The classic “black” blazer reworked

So I’m always shocked to hear that men and women a like have never purchased from ASOS.com OR, however tragic, have not HEARD of ASOS.com. WOW!

ASOS.com has long been the UK’s largest online fashion and beauty store, established in 2000 by Nick Robertson and for the last ten years has been a staple for fashionistas worldwide. I myself have been purchasing from Asos.com for the last two years, rarely sharing my secret sartorial pleasure with my peers. Alas, ASOS.com is becoming more and more popular to US shoppers and now has a site dedicated to US customers.

With the blessing from ASOS.com, KRAVE Magazine will now start to feature branded ASOS.com features on our blog and printed issues, showcasing the fantastic fashion you can get from the online retailer.

And now…for our very FIRST ASOS.com Branded post:

REWORKING THE ‘BLACK’ BLAZER!

ASOS Slim Fit Studded Shawl Collar Blazer $189.64

Rock it out…literally.Studs and spikes have been adorning designer brands for the past few seasons.  Keep it masculine and sleek with black stud detail that doesn’t overwhelm the garment. Dress it up or down.

ASOS Slim Fit Zip Detail Blazer $206.88

It’s all in the details! And the minimal detailing creates a classic impact. Give the basic black an edge…with zipper edge detailing. Definitely not your typical dinner jacket but definitely for the sartorialist who wants to tip the scales, occasionally. :-)

ASOS Slim Fit Panel Navy Blazer $146.54

Collaborate. Don’t be afraid to have an affair with navy. It’s still a deep rich hue and why not marry it WITH black? Classic + contemporary = your unique expression of style.

Stay tuned for more of the amazing articles and accessories you can get from ASOS.com. If you like what you see here, click on the photos and you will be directed to the website for more information about the garment and instructions to purchase.

Soul Food: Nourishment – Integrity

KRAVE Integrity

Here at KRAVE, we are renowned for being the go to fashion guide for today’s Man. After 5 years, we remain the only fashion lifestyle and entertainment magazine for all men of color.

What you may not know is that KRAVE equally embodies a set of core values that keep us looking as good on the inside as we endeavor to look on the outside. It’s been often said, “Clothes make the man.” There is truth in that statement. Certainly, what we wear makes a tremendous difference in how we are seen and judged by others, but what DEFINES a man cannot usually be captured in a photograph or measured by a tailor.

——————————-

I’m not what most would consider a style or fashion guru, but I have been given the distinct pleasure of helping wardrobe your personality, enhance the look of your attitude, and challenge your way of thinking.

With that said, allow me to share a secret with you… I know something that looks good on EVERYONE! It’s sure to get you noticed and you will certainly stand out. It’s something every man should have but it doesn’t come cheap.

It goes well with denim, and still looks great with a blazer. Dress it up or down… it even goes great with a hat. African, Asian, bald, tall, overweight, or muscle head, this is definitely a “one size fits all.”

To be without it would be like having a bright and beautiful smile and terrible breath; or having on the finest linen suit, in the summer, and not wearing deodorant.

It’s Integrity.

Integrity is adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty.

Being known for your sense of style and swag can open many doors and provide you with access to many places  Your integrity is what will help you stay there long enough to take advantage of those opportunities. Our pants and socks shouldn’t be the only things that match. Our words and actions should be consistent with what we hold as personal convictions and values.

Integrity…how does it look on you?

Sunday Sound Selection: JoJo MixTape

JoJo has definitely grown up, in both image and sound. I’ve had this mixtape for a while now but thanks to my dear friend Shatani Chouteau, I finally listened to it in entirety.

The true indication of her growth is the track “I Need A Man”, where JoJo comes out the game wailing with intense declaration that she needs a man and not a boy! Alright!

I will be jamming this for a few days!!! Check it out!

From the site: Download JoJo’s mixtape “Can’t Take That Away From Me” for free. The 11-track offering features the single “In the Dark” plus contributions from Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, Kenna, Neff-U, Oak, Beau Dozier, Jordan Gatsby, Travis Garland, and more.

Download the mixtape HERE for free. Enjoy!

Cheryl Jones: Female Model of the Month

Miss November: Cheryl (Cejae) Jones

Where are you from?

I was born in Daegu Korea, and have lived all over the world; I don’t really claim one place.

When did you start modeling?

When I was 17

What drives/drove you to pursue a career in the modeling/fashion industry?

What constantly drives me about the industry is the unlimited freedom to be creative. Fashion is art, and the possibilities for art are endless. There’s nothing better than coming up with and idea and actually seeing it come to life in a photograph or fashion show.

What are some of your best/worst experiences modeling?

My best modeling experience is Rip the Runway. The entire week was a whirlwind, it was very high paced, and was definitely no walk in the park….auditions, fittings, rehearsals…I probably felt every emotion, from anxious to nervous to ecstatic. I had the opportunity to witness the behind the scenes and meet a lot of influential people in the industry. Yes, it was exciting to walk on stage knowing that it would be broadcast across the world, but that was far from the best part…the best part was the bond that i made with the other models, the friends that i made, I sought something out and achieved it, but it wouldn’t have been as great without them….best modeling experience and one the my best experiences in general.

What advice would you give to hopeful models?

Wow, well there’s tons of advice to give…be confident, study your craft, follow designers watch the trends, follow models watch how they walk pose dress…watch your figure, I’m not saying you need to be 100lbs but you definitely want to be at a competitive weight, maintain healthy skin and hair…and just go for it!

What is your dream job?

I have many…shoot with Steven Miesel…walk for Balmain and DSquared2 during fashion week…be a Victoria’s secret model…
How can you be booked?

The Clutts Agency

What would you consider your best feature?

I don’t know..my smile J…a lot of people say I have great hair.

What are some of the jobs/campaigns you’ve been booked for or are
recognized in?

BET’s Rip The Runway

Vivica A. Fox Hair Collection

Modern Luxury Houston Brides

Academy Sports & Outdoors

Jezebel Magazine

Vibe Magazine

Source Magazine

King Magazine

Rides Magazine

Ozone Magazine

How do you stay in ‘model shape’?

Workout and eat healthy! I’m a fan of P90x and the treadmill. I try to eat lots of fruits, veggies, lean meats, no white bread, rice or pasta. And drink lots of water!

KRAVE celebrates beauty and more importantly celebrates young people of color living their dreams. We congratulate Miss Jones on her success so far and wish her many blessings in the future.
