Say What?! New Nivea ad: Racist?

The internet is ablaze this morning over the new Nivea total body products ad. The re-civilize ad states “Look Like You Give A Damn”, showcasing a groomed African American male grasping a beheaded African American man with a full fro and facial hair. WOW.

I can see what they were trying to acheive BUT…yeah…simply ill-executed.

Here’s the full article:

Honoring Black History Month

Black History Month is a time to commemorate and honor those who have made distinguished contributions in different facets of community and lives of African-Americans. In an effort to recognize those that have provided “first” and/or contributed to breaking boundaries we have identified the following individuals.

Tyson Beckford

Meet the first black male supermodel! Not only is Tyson the first black male supermodel he is the first male model to reach supermodel status in a fashion world dominated by divine, statuesque females. This native New Yorker has graced the pages of publications such as Essence, Details, and GQ. But he is best known for his work as a Ralph Lauren model. He has been named one of the “50 Most Beautiful People” by People Magazine and has hosted TV shows such as Make Me A Supermodel on Bravo.

David Agbodji

David Agbodji is the first black male model to open and close for a Calvin Klein show. He broke out in Milan Men’s Fashion Week where he stole the show. This is considered a big feat because the fashion world appears to be considerably dominated by a majority race. David was born in Paris, is French-Nigerian and has modeled for such layouts in Interview, French Vogue, Surface, and German GQ.

Tyra Banks

Oh Ms. Tyra! The beautiful bombshell is the first black female model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated, GQ, and the Victoria’s Secret catalogue. Getting her start on the runways of Paris, she has went on to achieve a multitude of accomplishments including acting, singing, status of businesswoman, and the host of such shows as America’s Next Top Model and The Tyra Banks Show. She has also acted in such shows and movies as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Felicity, Just Shoot Me, All of Us, and Gossip Girls.

Naomi Campbell

There is one word for this beauty…..FIERCE! Naomi Campbell is the first black female model to grace the cover of French Vogue and Time Magazine. She has graced over 500 covers which include Elle, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar and countless others. Naomi is part of the 90’s supermodel era which included the “Big Six,” Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Kate Moss, and herself. Her very impressive résumé also includes acting in such shows and movie as The Cosby Show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, New York Undercover, Ugly Betty and countless others.

Barack and Michelle Obama

How beautiful is this?! The first African-American president Barack Obama and his lovely wife Michelle Obama, the first African-American first Lady. This power couple has achieved the ultimate feat and what so many before them have struggled to see accomplished. The induction of an African-American in the White House helps to give hope to all and pave the way for many of all races.  Our 44th president is not only the first African-American president; he was the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. Through his hard work, values, and strong family upbringing, the president has knocked over many barriers.

Community: Feed someone this Christmas

A lot of us are running around with our heads spinning round, trying to decide what to gift for our family, loved ones and friends.  We often forget the hundreds to thousands of people who will go without not only Christmas gifts but also food. Hopefully you can find it in your heart to donate some money to our local food banks and various other charities that strive to make the holidays joyous for all mankind.

- Kenny Hibbler, Creative Director

$1 Feeds 4 People.

For many of us, the holidays bring thoughts of cheerful gatherings, gift giving and going back for seconds. But for thousands of North Texas kids, families and seniors, all that comes to mind is “Where will I find my next meal?”

Families who once prepared a lavish feast are now skipping dinner. Kids who, just last year, were asking for the newest toy are now walking to school hungry. And elderly couples, recently enjoying retirement, are now choosing between paying bills and putting food on the table.

Fortunately, we can come together as a community and make things better. In fact, a simple one-dollar donation to the North Texas Food Bank provides four meals for hungry North Texans.

This holiday season, North Texans need your help more than ever. Please click on the Donate Today button to start making a difference right away. Individually you can make a meaningful impact on someone’s life–together we can truly fight hunger in our community.

Join the fight against hunger. Donate Today.

Our Donor Confidentiality Pledge Personal information remains confidential and will not be shared, traded or sold by the North Texas Food Bank.

For those of you outside of North Texas (KRAVE Is based there), please visit Feeding America for information on how to assist your local and national food banks to fight hunger right HERE in our country.

Soul Food: Nourishment – Sincerity

KRAVE Sincerity

The navy suit has been the recommended interview/business suit of choice for a very long time. Some have even referred to it as their “sincere blue” suit, suggesting that the color of the suit conveys a message of honesty and transparency to potential employers or business constituents.

Sincerity, simply means to be free from deceit, hypocrisy, or duplicity. People who are sincere are also said to be genuine and honest.

How does a man look sincere, despite what he’s wearing? My recommendation is just BE sincere. That sounds silly, but it’s true. To be deceptive, misleading, or disingenuous may at times seem more expedient, but in the end, it usually comes back to bite you in the seat of your not-so-sincere blue.

There is no complex formula for becoming a more sincere person. It’s accomplished through consistently saying and doing the right thing. At times, being sincere may not be as eye-catching as the necktie that you wore to give your suit its pop factor, but it’s almost always respected and appreciated.

There may come a time that your trusty navy suit is dirty, or you forget to pick it up from the dry cleaners. Don’t worry; Just remember to always wear sincerity everyday and you’ll be fine.
