Events: RHOA Cythia Bailey Wedding

I have to admit.  The Real Housewives of Atlanta is a guilty pleasure for the KRAVE staff.  It’s just irresistible! But on a less dramatic note…we’d like to celebrate the union of Cynthia and Peter.  This photo was on, displaying the lovely black couple in a symbol of matrimony.

Congratulations to you two!

KRAVEHer: Beyonce stars in “A Star Is Born”

Although her veritable star was born quite a while ago, the uber-talented and ubiquitous Miss Beyoncé Knowles-Carter will be starring in the remake of the classic “A Star Is Born”, directed by the amazing Clint Eastwood.

How exciting is that? Especially to have to follow in the footsteps of Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand!  I’m really hoping this becomes a major accomplishment in her career. Kudos and we can’t wait to see the film!

KRAVE Her: Lil Miss Willow Smith x Vanity Fair

Little Miss Willow is whippin her hair all over the place! The poptart star will be in the upcoming Vanity Fair issue, covered by none other than Mr. Ubiquitous himself, Justin Bieber.

I love how they kept Willow looking youthful and like a kid, which I’m sure comes from her own strong independence and mama Jada’s tongue.

Marcelli Felice: “Miss January” Female Model of the Month

Miss January, Marcelli Felice. On life, modeling and how you can attract more flies with honey…

Where are you from?

I am originally from Los Angeles, California. My family and I moved to the Dallas area when I was about 10 years old. My school years were spent in Dallas and my summers in LA.

When did you start modeling?

In Summer 2009… I just happened to fall into it…

What drives/drove you to pursue a career in the modeling/fashion industry?

The ability to showcase creative ideas in the forms of modeling, fashion and makeup drive me to think of unique ways to portray them. I get pumped when I get a new idea, or when I find something that inspires me. I love creating concepts for photo shoots, whether I’m actually involved in the shoot, or behind the scenes. I enjoy sharing my work with others and all who appreciate the creative process.

What are some of your best/worst experiences modeling?

I don’t really have any bad experiences since I learn and grow from every situation, but I really enjoy the times when I’m shooting… Hair, makeup, lights, camera, and action!!! Some upbeat music playing and I ready to go!

What advice would you give to hopeful models?

I would say listen to your gut, it never steers you wrong… Be personable and friendly when meeting new people because you never know who will be hiring you next, and always strive to do better than the last time you modeled, walked the runway, etc.

What is your dream job?

My top 2 dream jobs: To be the face of a major makeup company, like M.A.C. Makeup or Covergirl and to model in photo shoots for Vera Wang and Carolina Herrera.

How can you be booked?

Right now, directly thru me. Visit my website at … I am currently seeking new representation.

What would you consider your best feature?

I would say my bone structure and skin… Several makeup artists have complimented me on my face.

What are some of the jobs/campaigns you’ve been booked for or are recognized in?

The most recognizable job I’ve had happens to not be in the modeling industry but in television. I am currently working on NBC’s Chase as a stand-in for Rose Rollin’s character “Daisy”. I do hope to be booked in more recognizable modeling jobs in the near future! I have a positive outlook so keep an eye out for me! 🙂

What do you do to stay in ‘Model’ Shape?

Simple cardio work outs like running/jogging, eating balanced meals, no soda and mostly juice and water, moderating junk food and getting plenty of sleep!

Rest In Peace Reggie Doucet

Reginald Doucet

I try my hardest to not make my posts on here personal…however I have to express my personal emotions for a moment. Just a few weeks ago I was speaking to a young man who’s been incredibly amped about fitness and his promising future.  We discussed his athletic career, why he’s always smiling, how he stays in shape and what he could do with KRAVE and KRAVE Fit magazines.  His name was Reginald Doucet.

Reggie was the football star who everyone knew and liked and who always cracked jokes and made people smile…and also very kind.

He was shot and killed this morning by the LAPD, while unarmed.  The reports say that he was resisting arrest and fighting the officers but for the life of me I cannot understand why they’d shoot to kill an unarmed man.

I’ve sat here for the last hour or so trying to debate if I’d post something so personal…but I believe its important for us to celebrate the life of the people who are a positive influence. And Reggie was definitely that.

We’ll miss you man…

VOGUE: The rare African American covers

Naomi Campbell for Vogue, Mario Testino

All of the world has a great love for VOGUE Magazine: women, men, all races and religions, various social ranks and sexual orientations. This idolatry has catapulted VOGUE to astronomical heights and even to localized distribution to eighteen counties/regions. Vogue is now published in Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and of course the United States (American Vogue).

It is the world’s fascination with American Vogue and our particular fascination with the lack of color on the COVERS of American Vogue which prompted this post.

I personally have been an avid reader of Vogue since middle school, when I decided I would become a clothing designer. Although my career aims have definitely changed, I still have a torrid affair with Vogue; one filled with love and hate.  And sadness for the lack of diversity within its pages and especially the cover. This is one reason I actively pursued a career in fashion publication.

However, instead of harping about the lack of African-American and minority covers, we’re going to celebrate the achievements of said cover models.  And hopefully ignite a fire of progression.

Enjoy! – Kenny Hibbler, Creative Director

Beverly Johnson. The first African-American cover, 1974

Naomi Campbell. First African-American on September Issue 1989

Oprah Winfrey. 1998. The much-talked about issue where Anna Wintour advised that Oprah lose 20 pounds before her Vogue shoot.

Marion Jones. 2001

Halle Berry. December 2002

Liya Kebede. May 2005

Jennifer Hudson. March 2007

First Lady, Michelle Obama. March 2009

Beyoncé. April 2009. Very controversial because of the implication that black women belong on the cover that focuses on a NON-model shape/size.

Halle Berry, 2nd cover. September 2010

And up next, Rihanna

Here are some additional covers featuring women of color, mainly in group shots. And some much debated ‘vintage’ Vogue covers.

KRAVE Her: Rihanna to cover US Vogue

Rihanna has been red-hot lately…and not just because of her crimson tresses. Breaking and setting new records worldwide, the starlet as about to set a new record as one of the few black women to grace the cover of American Vogue!

Thats right! She recently tweeted about wrapping up a shoot with the uber talented Annie Leibovitz for the fashion bible. We cannot WAIT to see! No matter if you hate it or love it, Little Miss Sunshine is doing her thing. What’s her name? RIHANNA!
